How to monetize your adventures for amateur adventurers looking to become full-time adventurers
Anyone doing regular adventures already knows how addictive it gets.
Nothing beats a long hike to a mountain top or kayaking down a great river. The adrenaline, the struggle, the reward.
For most of us, we work and save money to spend on adventures. But what if you could monetize the adventures so they paid for themselves?
It is possible and I see more full-time adventurers every day. Mostly they make income from these streams:
Sponsorship/Product Placement/Affiliation
Writing or creating video of their adventures and selling them or building their own audience
Organising adventures for people to join
Public speaking
Adventure coaching or consulting
Creating courses
Setting up a donation page
Of course, if you want to go full-time you have to build a brand and following. You are going to have to self-fund your first adventures and create content along the way.
The key is picking your early adventures wisely. They have to be a riveting story that people will want to follow along with.
Many of the adventurers I follow first started out by cycle around the world, or to India, or across Africa. It doesn't have to be epic though, as long it is something people can connect with.
For example, Beau Miles only ate canned beans for 40 days and then ran a marathon. Its an odd one, but I'd still class this as an adventure. The output is a highly entertaining video which has been viewed over 2.8 million times. Just type "The Human Bean" into YouTube.
So my advice if you want to become a full-time adventurer: Grab yourself a camera, put your boots on, get adventuring and begin creating.
